A bilingual Slovak and English selection of his verse, published in Bratislava and seldom seen in the United States.
FERLINGHETTI, Lawrence (1919-2021) and Miro VOJTEK (photographs). Ars(e) Poetica · Sliač. Translated by Jana Kantorová-Báliková. Bratislava: Petrus, [2002-2003].
Tall narrow 8vo (250 × 130 mm). Bilingual Slovak and English text, illustrated with black-and-white photographs of the Slovak landscape. Original cream leather-grain boards lettered in brown. The title-page incorporates a printed facsimile of Ferlinghetti’s signature and an accompanying line drawing of a face, the signature running across the crown of the head. Both are reproduced as part of the original printed design.
Notes
A bilingual selection of Ferlinghetti’s verse set against Vojtek’s photographs of the Slovak countryside. The afterword records that the compiler chose about half of the verses and that the poet approved their pairing with the landscapes. The book was published in Bratislava and is seldom offered in the United States.
Fine.
